St. John’s just come up short in semi-final
U-12 Fl Div 4 League Cup semi-final: St. John’s 0-15 St Molaise Gaels 0-32

St. John's ambitions of an underage title were dashed by a St. Molaise Gaels team that finished strongly in the U-12 league cup semi-final played in a sunny Monsignor Hynes Park on Tuesday evening.

St John’s under 12B team’s league position meant they qualified for the league semi-final against St Molaise Gaels.

A badly depleted St John’s team started the game strongly with good running from midfield from Liam lee and Cormac Roddy coupled with sterling defending of Ronan Hegarty and Mark Mc Donagh meant they went in at the end of the first quarter trailing by a point on a scoreline of 0.06 to 0.05.

The good work continued in the second quarter with good distribution by Goalkeeper Ciaran Quinn and great finishing by Mark Flohr ensured the team were still well in contention just trailing by 0.13 to 0.11.

The game changed in the third quarter with the team tiring and some strong running by St Molaise Gaels left St Johns on the back foot and they never really recovered from this spell of play and St Molaise Gaels went on to win by 0.32 to 0.15.

Best of luck to St Molaise Gaels in the final.

Best for St Johns on the night were Ciaran Quinn, Mark Flohr, John Hanbury and Ray Mc Carney.

Great credit is due to the team in their first year of structured leagues. They finished in the top three in the county at their age group and of the top four sides they were only defeated by St Molaise Gaels.
