Club's U-12 side stay in contention for league honours

St. John’s pass Tourlestrane test

The St. John’s U-12 B team are the clubs success story of their year following their fourth victory in last Tuesday’s defeat of a much touted Tourlestrane  side by 0-19 to 0-15.

The game was in doubt with torrential rain over the previous days but the evening itself brightened up and it proved good omens for Joint Managers Gerry Quinn & Michael Hegarty’s charges.

Right from the start St. John’s controlled the game with direct attacking play.  Sparkling performances from the forwards most notably the scoring prowess of Liam Lee, Aine Gorman & Cormac Roddy kept the scores rising and with a water tight defence of Sean Moore, Emmanuel Nwani giving little away and the assured Marc Lyttle starring in goals the Carraroe starlets ended the second quarter in a commanding 0-12 to 0-4 lead.

With the strength in depth the team has its disposal the management had the luxury of bringing on subs of the calibre of Corey O’Dowd, Ryan McLoughlin,David Elliott, Jade Gray & Tyler Haxell all making telling contributions.

Overall it was another very encouraging & heartening team display by St. John’s who were able to withstand a tenacious late fightback from Tourlestrane in the final quarter. St. John’s dogged determination in defence and  greater support up front managed to stem the tide and run out deserving winners in the end by 0-19 0-15.

Best for St John’s on the night were Josh Davey, Emmanuel Nwani, David Elliott and Aine Gorman.

An encouraging statistic the team are averaging 0-15 per game.
