St. John’s U-12 B team through to league semi-finals

St John’s U-12 B team finished off their league campaign with a hard earned victory on Tuesday evening against Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point in sunny Cleveragh.

Marc Lyttle again starred in goals and was ably supported by Ronan Hegarty, Sean Moore and Bendict Nwani forcing Drumcliffe/Rosses Point forwards to live of crumbs of possession.

Tireless running from the midfield pairing of Emmanuel Nwani & Cormac Roddy meant the forwards of the calibre of Ciaran Quinn, Aine Gorman & John Hanbury got a steady supply of ball to convert into scores.

Again the management team of Michael Hegarty & Gerry Quinn wisely used the full panel and had the luxury of bringing on talented players of Tyler Haxwell, Liam Lee, Corey O’Dowd, James Derwin & Ray McCarney all adding energy to the team.

An astute change from the team management seen Ciaran Quinn take over in goals and he kept a clean sheet while Marc Lyttle moved into attack and added extra metal and drive to the forward line. He was ably assisted by the impeccable finishing of Liam Lee in the last quarter keeping St. John’s well out in front. Ciaran Quinn let nothing past him in goals and the defence defended with dogged determination.

The team held on for an excellent win over a battling Drumcliffe/Rosses Point by 0-13 to 0-7.

Best for St Johns on the night were Ronan Hegarty, Sean Moore, and Benedict Nwani.

The team finished in third place and will now meet St. Molaise Gaels in the league semi-finals. It’s a repeat of their round six match on June 23rd last with St. Molaise Gaels winning narrowly by two points. Another close match is in prospect. The game is due to be played on 14th July next.

Great credit is due to the kids who have shown great commitment over the last eighteen months to their training and have worked hard to improve their skill levels. They are also a credit to their parents who themselves have supported the club and their children.
