Storming comeback blows Gaels away

St.John’s second team recorded their first league success of this year’s campaign with a well deserved victory over Shamrock Gaels in Stenson Park on Sunday. The first half was a close encounter with St.John’s edging ahead at the start with points from Conor McGowan, Mark Rooney & Brian Harris. Shamrock Gaels came more into the contest and were on parity before Conor McGowan put St. John’s into the lead with a well taken goal. Shamrock Gaels struck back before the interval with 2 goals of their own despite Noel Hynes in the St. John’s goal pulling of 3 wonder saves. St John’s trailed at half time by 4 points by 2-5 to 1-4.

St. John’s began to assert control in the middle of the field and gradually pulled clear by 2 points and a goal coming from Brian Harris. John Reilly, Conor McGowern, Cathal Jordan, Mark Rooney all added on points. Running half backs Oisin Cox & Conor led to further goals from Conor McGovern & Cathal Jordan. Final score from Stenson Park was St.John’s 5-12 Shamrock Gaels 3-6

St.John’s team was: Noel Hynes, Paul McDonnell, Ronan Kelly, Enda Roche, Oisin Cox, Conor Greene, Brian Harris, Mark Rooney, Cian Haugh, John Reilly, Cathal Jordan, Paul McLean, Conor McGowan.

Training continues on Wednesday evening. The next game is away to Owenmore Gaels on Saturday evening at 7.00 p.m.
