St. John’s G.A.A. Club Academy continue to shine

St. John’s G.A.A Club Academy held a very successful 5 day Club Camp for 6-13 year olds held in Stenson Park from Monday 17th – Friday 21st August last, writes Michael McGee.

Despite some heavy showers that fell over the week it did not dampen the spirits or the enthusiasm of the St. John’s young future stars. Following on from the much lauded 11 week programme organised by the club for the U-6’s to U-10’s which ended in June the club organised the Camp for its young players. With the support of the Sligo G.A.A. Boards Coaches namely Liam Og Gormley Sligo G.A.A. Board Development Officer, Pat Kilcoyne along with county stars Ross Donovan & St. John’s own County Star Eoin Flanagan expertly giving excellent coaching in Gaelic Games. The camp was deemed an outstanding success according to club officials with over 70 kids participating.

Kelly delighted with Camp success
The Club’s Juvenile Chairman Fergal Kelly expressed his delight with the overall organisation and the huge numbers taking part.

“It was absolutely brilliant, we couldn’t have expected the turnout of players that attended. We are delighted with the coaches involved from Liam Og Gormley and his staff of Coaches Pat Kilcoyne, Benny Kenny, Ross Donovan all assisted greatly along with our club coaches. I would like to thank the Co. Board Coaches with our club coaches for giving such great coaching and guidance throughout the week.”

Chairman praises Sponsors Seamus & Nuala Flanagan and Club Secretary John Reilly
Without the sponsors this week wouldn’t have happened. Seamus & Nuala Flanagan have been loyal supporters over the past number of years. Their son Eoin helped out with the Coaching as well. It was great for the children to see the intercounty players on the same field as they trained. I would also like to thank John Reilly who guided the camp the whole week and kept control over the week’s activities which ran so smoothly. He would also agree that the children were well behaved and are a credit to their families for the way they behaved themselves added Kelly.

In summing up the Club Chairman said “it was a fantastic week for the children. They got five days of brilliant coaching. They have increased their football skills and social skills and above all they had fantastic fun.”
