St. John’s players star for Summerhill College in
Connacht league title success, writes Michael McGee
Summerhill College took home the Connacht Colleges
A league title from the Connacht Centre of Excellence last night with a
comprehensive 3-12 0-09 victory over
Roscommon CBS.
The Summerhill lads were quicker out of the blocks
and playing an attractive brand of football racing into a 7 point lead at half
time.
At the start of the second half Roscommon pinned
summerhill back in their own half for
long periods. Summerhill goal stopper Niall Crawley pulled off a number of
magnificent saves. Once Summerhill broke
the stranglehold they again regained their superiority and finished the game
strongly.
A number of St. John’s players were to the fore
most notably Paul McNamara operating at centre half back putting in a sterling performance with some big hits
that drove the opposition back.
Brian “gooch” McGowan covered every blade in the
Park. Starting at Corner forward his intelligent footballing brain seen him
helping out his overstretched defence in the full back line on numerous
occasions. Alex Selby’s teak tough
defending on a roving full forward ensured the Sligo Schools victory.
The panel also included Cathal Jordan, Cian Hough, Conor McGovern, Emmett Flanagan & Evan Tuffy.
