St. Johns's win first league points of the season in Division 1

Results:  Senior FL Division 2
St. John’s 1-17 Ballymote 3-10

Late rally just fails again!!

There was mixed fortunes for our Div 1 and 2 teams over the weekend. Our Div 2 team entertained Ballymote in Stenson Park on Sat and despite a magnificent fight back in the second half lost out by 1 point on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-17. Slow to settle Ballymote took full advantage and had stretched into a 13 point lead by the break. A number of substitutions were made and the team produced a magnificent second half recovery led by Mark Rooney, Alex Selby and Brian McGowan. The introduction of Shane Stenson, Ross Gordon and Jamie McGovern paid dividends and with 2 minutes left the sides were level but Ballymote just stole it in the end with a late late point. The side showed great heart and fighting spirit and we look forward to the next game which is against Eastern Harps on this Sat.

Senior FL Division 1
St. John’s 1-11 Drumcliff/Rosses Point 2-5

Senior’s gain first league points

Our Div 1 team also had to do it the hard way against Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on Sun in Stenson Park. Leaving behind an abysmal first half performance the team got their act together in the final 20 min to earn a 1-11 to 2-5 victory. Whatever quiet words team manager Anthony Brennan said at half time seemed to have worked as the team upped the work rate and registered the necessary scores. However it was Drumcliffe who started the second half scoring with a fortunate goal from a cross that caught out defenders and goalkeeper and went into the net off the upright.
John Scanlon replied with a point to begin the fight back and further scores from Mark Rooney, Oisin Cox, and Conor Kearins who scored 1-2 brought the team back into contention. St Johns with the aid of the breeze took control in midfield in the final quarter with James Murphy and Shane Stenson winning enough possession to help secure victory.
Our next game is away to St Pats next weekend.
